Mary said, "I know that I am going to get Caleb for his birthday: a Modell's gift card. He was going crazy in there, look at this, I want this, can I have a Bruins jersey?"
Caleb said, "I'll use that money to buy a new basketball hoop."
"What? We have a hoop that is perfectly fine, if you would stop hanging on it," said Grace.
"Come on. You have to admit it, I am pretty awesome," replied Caleb.

Love Is A Many Splendored Thing
A week ago, Mary was in the bathroom getting ready for the day. Rebecca entered the room and walked over to Mary. As she looked up at her, she said, "Mom, I love you most."
Mary hugged her and replied, "I love you too, Rebecca."
Rebecca walked out of the bathroom and saw me sitting in our room. She looked at me and said, "I love you most, too."

What's in a Name?
I love nicknames. We have nicknames for our kids and some of our friends. It is definitely something that our children have caught onto. The most interesting nickname in our house currently is the nickname for Joshua's shoes. Our children or one of the elementary kids on our street gave this pair of shoes its nickname:
Can you guess their nickname? These shoes are called the "Yo Dude" shoes. Where do a bunch of kids come up with that nickname?
Sure, I could see a rapper wearing white Nikes (or adidas in the case of Run DMC), but that is an image from my youth. How would my kids be tapping into that? I am flummoxed by where they come up with these things.

The Baby
We were in our room and the children wanted to feel the baby move. It was Rebecca's turn. She put her hand on Mary's stomach and the baby obliged by moving all over the place.
Rebecca said, "I like Millicent Maude. She's crazy."

Let Me Outta Here!
Rebecca loves to be outside. She will run out the door if you give her a chance. We have to be really careful with our screen door. If it isn't shut all the way, she will be out on the street before you know it.
This week we came home from an activity around dinner time. I was trying to get everyone inside for dinner. It had rained most of the day and everything was wet. I got the older children inside, but not Rebecca. I told her that she had to come in. She told me she wanted to play basketball. How was my 2-year old going to make a basket at our outdoor hoop? Why would I want her to get all wet?
I told her she had to come in for dinner now. I looked down and around the corner comes the most dejected 2-year old you will ever see. Her chin was buried in her chest with eyes glued to the ground. She was frowning, had slumped her shoulders and was dragging her feet.
How did she pick up that body language? Wasn't she almost 2 at the time? Do all 2 year olds do that?

Birthday Girl
Well, Rebecca hit 2 years old today. We had a great time celebrating her. Here is a picture of her this morning.
The birthday hat makes its requisite appearance.
The family enjoyed the traditional birthday breakfast of doughnuts.
Rebecca had fun opening her presents. I got a number of pictures, but this is the one that turned out best. Grandma and Grandpa sent her this book and she loves it.
Mary got these balloons for Rebecca's birthday. Rebecca asked if she could go outside and let one go.

Saturday at Play
I took these photos on Saturday. Nothing fancy, but I thought I should post some pictures of the kids to the blog. These first two pictures were taken during Caleb's soccer game. The younger kids like to play at the playground while Mary and I take turns watching Caleb play.
After the soccer game, we did chores and later played on the street. Here is the queen of the block.
They were playing some kind of game. For Joshua and Rebecca, that meant they needed sunglasses.
I try to convince Caleb to look at the camera once in a while. I don't think it worked out this time.

Getting Dressed - Boys Edition
On Sunday, I was helping Joshua get dressed for church. He likes dressing up for church, which he learned from Caleb. Mary had laid out an outfit for him. It was a sweater vest, long sleeve shirt and pants. We got the shirt on and I was helping him with his pants. I got one leg in and then he stopped. I asked him, "What's the matter, Joshua?"
"I need my belt," he replied as he was about to run off.
I said, "But these are elastic waist pants."
He looked and them and said, "Oh yeah, they are my slide-them-up pants."
Caleb is the one in the house that is the most particular about the way he looks for church. He loves to wears ties. We were recently at my parents house and had forgotten to pack him a tie. He was REALLY upset. Fortunately, he could borrow one of my dad's ties. (He told me he could not borrow one of my ties because I did not have anything that would match his outfit.) I just had to tie to the tie in a way that he could wear it with a sweater.
Whenever I tie his tie, I am instructed on how the knot should look. "Today, I want a big knot, Dad," he will say. Or, "Today, I want a skinny knot like yours."
He latest acquisition is a sports coat. He loves it and wears it almost every week now. He definitely looks handsome.
If you want to see a cool video with great music, check this out. My cousin sent me this link about a month ago. I love this video and music is incredibly catchy.

Aspirations
All of us need a goal. Some people want a particular job or they want to become like someone. I think it is important to have worthy goals.
The other morning, Caleb announced one of his goals. He came into the bathroom singing a classic Disney song about everyone's favorite hero, Gaston from Beauty and the Beast. I had to laugh as he sang, "As you see, I've got bisons to spare."
